From the Netherlands to Camp Leadership
Lauren's adventure to Camp Oh-Neh-Tah started when she was just 20, moving from the Netherlands to America to work as a Cabin Counselor. "The moment I first drove up into the mountains, it was like coming home. I still get that feeling every time," she reflects. This connection to the camp has grown over the years, eventually bringing her back as our innovative Program Director.
Making Camp Smarter with New Tech
Lauren has played a big role in transforming how we manage camp this year, taking a lead position on our implementation team for CampMinder/CampInTouch. This system simplifies everything from registration to daily schedules, making everything run smoother. “This technology lets us communicate better and enhances our camp operations,” Lauren explains. She will be able to keep parents updated with the “Campanion” app, sharing photos and daily posts during the camp session.
A Day in the Life of Camp Oh-Neh-Tah
Every day, Lauren carefully plans out the camp schedule. She coordinates activities, staff breaks, and special events to ensure the day goes smoothly. “I organize everything so that everyone knows where they need to be throughout the day,” she says. Her meticulous planning keeps the energy high and the days fun.
Capturing Camp Life Through Photos
Lauren's passion for photography allows her to document the daily life at camp. She captures important moments and fun times, sharing them with campers and their families. “I enjoy recording all the activities and the joy it brings to everyone,” she shares.
Why the Dining Hall is the Heart of Camp
The dining hall is Lauren’s favorite spot at camp. It's more than just a place to eat; it's where everyone comes together. It’s situated on a hill with a stunning view, buzzing with the energy of camp life. “It’s the center of our community, filled with laughter and bonding,” she says with a smile.
Dreaming Big for the Future
With Camp Oh-Neh-Tah nearing its 90th anniversary, Lauren has big dreams. “I hope to have 90 campers celebrate with us for the anniversary, to honor our camp’s rich history,” she plans. She’s also excited about reviving the tradition of a Christmas gathering in the city, bringing together alumni and current campers.
Lauren’s leadership at Camp Oh-Neh-Tah is defined by her innovative spirit, dedication to the community, and her commitment to keeping the magic of camp alive for each new generation
